Adventure Castle Hohenwerfen Fortress - The fortified bulwark high above the Salzach Valley
High above the Salzach Valley, between the Tennen and Hagen mountain massifs,
perches the 900-year old former defensive fortress of Hohenwerfen. Those looking for
adventure and "culture enthusiasts" will be utterly satisfied with their visit to
Hohenwerfen.
A variety of entertainment and other offerings awaits the visitor. From guided tours,
including a weapons exhibition, a stylish castle snack bar, a Knights Shop above the
historic state falconry with daily flying falcon shows, the first Austrian Provincial Falcon
Museum, all the way to regularly changing special exhibitions.
A special, comprehensive calendar of events is continually being updated and
expanded. For example, the guided tour area was recently adapted to nighttime guided
tours. Thus, during the summer months of July and August, special evening programs
will take place, with many additional background events, e.g. Mystical Night. Numerous
local culture afternoons, theater performances and special programs of the falconry
round out this large set of offerings for visitors.
