Experiencing history

Special tours are available for school classes and children's/youth groups as part of the educational museum program to give children and youths more insight into life in the Middle Ages.



1. Hohenwerfen Fortress


School classes are introduced to everything there is to see at the fortress. The program includes a tour of the fortress with its dungeon, torture chamber, armory and the magnificent state rooms, an impressive flight demonstration by birds of prey, a birds of prey nature trail and the 1st Austrian Falconry Museum.

2. "Up to here and no further"


(Special educational tour)
A guided tour for students, focusing on Hohenwerfen Fortress' function as a stronghold. The title is taken from the "vita conradi", the biography of Archbishop Konrad I (1106-1147). This tour particularly emphasizes Hohenwerfen's function as a military defense. The tour is rounded off by a jousting tournament.
